Along with our Basic Mission Giving, First Presbyterian
Church collects four special mission offerings throughout
the year. These are the Christmas Joy Offering, the
Peacemaking Offering, the Pentecost Offering, and One
Great Hour of Sharing. Together these have allowed us to
be recognized as a 5 by 5 church by the PC(USA).
Each week we collect Dimes for Mission. Members of the congregation save their dimes and donate them to special mission projects designated by the Session each quarter.
For several years we have been actively involved in Operation Christmas Child which fills shoeboxes with small gifts to be given to children in designated locations overseas. Recently we have served as the collection center for all the shoeboxes from central and western Nebraska.
The congregation has responded to several natural disasters through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. We also have congregation members who have served as Volunteers in Mission and have been assigned to assist on-site with disaster relief and health care.
We support many local mission projects, especially Jubilee Center and Habitat for Humanity with a financial commitment as well as volunteer assistance. In conjunction with three other denominations, we also support the United Campus Ministry program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
In addition to its many other programs and activities, First Presbyterian is proud to sponsor Susie Frerichs, a member of our congregation, as a full-time missionary working with Proyecto Amistad in Piedras Negras, Mexico. |
